This project features two relationships. The first one is between veteran drummer-composer-bandleader Tom Bancroft and one of his heroes – the great American-Armenian drummer -composer-bandleader Paul Motian who died in 2011. The project features half Tom Bancroft compositions juxtaposed with the other half by Paul Motian. Both drummers have composed melodic joyful rhythmic music but with very different but complementary characters. In his later career Motion often worked in bands with younger musicians. And the second relationship explored in Motian and Me is between Scottish jazz veteran Tom and his twin brother Phil, and some of the leading musicians from the younger generation of Scottish jazz talent. This is a unique Scottish group right now for combining Scottish jazz generations in this way. The group features corto alto’s inventive guitarist Jame Mackay, bass powerhouse Brodie Jarvie, and the glorious saxophone virtuoso Harben Kay. This new group explores some very beautiful and joyful melodic and rhythmic areas, with also the power and experience to take you on a wild sonic improvised ride and bring you safely back again.
