Nye Banfield Quartet

The Leicestershire-raised, Welsh-rooted saxophonist brings his dynamic quartet to Aberdeen, presenting music from his debut album. A graduate of Trinity Laban, Nye is a distinctly creative artist who paints visceral scenes through his music. Key influences of his are Ambrose Akinmusire, Wayne Shorter and British Jazz icon and mentor of Nye’s, Mark Lockheart.

For this performance Nye will be joined by brothers Robbie Moore on piano, and Ewan on drums, who themselves form the fusion duo ‘BIGHEADMODE’; and with Pyjaen member Ben Crane on double bass.

Nye Banfield – tenor sax

“Nye Banfield is a young tenor player with a big sound – full voiced and declamatory” Trails and Traces is “A long awaited and richly rewarding debut from an important emerging voice.”
4* Jazzwise

“A warm and intimate album… Trails and Traces serves as a resounding triumph for Nye Banfield”
UK Vibe

“A superb debut album by any standards, and one that features a fine sextet and a confident leader showing a maturity beyond his years. In a double whammy, we have an exciting new tenorist in our midst and an outstanding small group composer.”
